Fun in the Sunshine

Admin | General | Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Well today has been a lovely day so we thought we would take Toby to the seaside.  Lunch made we set off to see the sea !!  Oh the anticipation.

We arrived at the seaside, unloaded everything from the car; lunch, travel rug, bucket and spade and descended onto the beach.  The dry sand was no problem but as soon as we got to the wet sand, that had very very shallow puddles, WeeMan decided to have a dicky fit.  He just stood and cried, snot running down the face.  Daddy therefore picked Toby up and took him down to the sea and left him standing in the water (which actually was quite warm - for the north sea) crying his eyes out.  He then wouldn’t move and screamed ‘darry, darry’ which was ignored - everyone was watching - v embarrassing.  We then dragged Toby out of the water and down to the dry sand - he wasn’t a very happy boy.  Hence the planned holiday to the beach may have to be cancelled !!

Not sure if Toby has been traumatised for life - he came home saying that he didn’t like the seaside, didn’t like the sea and didn’t like the sand.  However, he did say that he like the sea with his wellies on !!Hope everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyed the lovely weather.

Toby’s Big Day

Admin | General | Saturday, April 26th, 2008

A big thank you to everyone for Toby’s cards and birthday presents.  He is one spoilt little boy who has every toy that any 2 year old could ever need or want.  We all had a wonderful day at ‘Big Sheep, Little Cow Farm’ where Toby fed some chickens, held a mouse, cuddled a rat, bathed a big piggie and gave some milk to some baby ba ba sheep and baby moo cows.  What a day !!!

Looky what I found …

Just a quick blog to let you know about a quite remarkable day I’ve just had at work.

Now normally, my work is exceptionally tedious to everybody especially my beautiful wife, however today was a little different.

Over the past few months we have been buying a load of property around the area.  These have been a mix of individual properties and larger portfolios from developers.

Anyhow, I have been wanting to let these buildings out for artist studio spaces and there was one building in particular, a rather lonely dark and dank affair that was ideal.

The problem was that the property was from a portfolio and the people we acquired it from had never bothered to look in it as there didn’t have any keys.    So, a quick look on t’internet identified a suitable locksmith and the next day (today) two hairy assed blokes turned up to break in.

A couple of hours later, they returned to the office and suggested that they would do the job for free if they could keep the contents of the building.    ‘Why, what’s in the building?’ I replied.

And then they told me.    And I didn’t believe me.

So they told me again.    So I went to have a look.

And this is what I found:

Daddy’s ‘Moonshine Boys’

Proud Parents

Just a quickie this time.

Whilst our son may indeed be an accident prone buffoon, it turns out he is also a little boy genius. Mummy’s boss’ wife, a paediatrician, needed a ‘test subject’ to try out some new fangled development assessment test.  Mummy, being the loving, caring type immediately signed up the nipper.  Daddy of course was a little more reticent – the idea of Toby being strapped into a chair with large needles/electrodes/things that peel your eyelids back, didn’t sound particularly enticing.  Still, mummy knows best.Anyhow, it turned out to be a rather sedate affair, with lots of brick stacking/book reading/talking/playing etc.So what was the conclusion?  Well he’s now 23 months old, and he has been assessed as being at the average 34 months level!!!

That’s my boy!Of course, daddy DID NOT look up the test on t’internet the weekend before and teach him how to complete the tests ;) - not that we’re putting under undue pressure to perform or anything!

The other thing this means as well is that if Toby is as advanced as someone of Jamie’s age, then obviously Jamie is well advanced of his age too!

Accidents do happen !!

Well what should have been a fun filled weekend has been a little bit accident prone.

We bribed Toby to go to bed on Saturday afternoon with a promise of going to ‘big ball, big slide’.  I have never seen him go to sleep so quickly.  We then had to wake him up after an hour because Daddy wanted to go to a photo exhibition.  And you’ve guessed it, Toby’s first words as he woke up were ‘big ball, big slide’.  Does he ever forget anything?  We went to the photo exhibition which involved Daddy looking round and Toby insisting that he wanted to go to ‘big ball, big slide’ so off we go, the place was packed with the best of the best from Newton Aycliffe.  The first incident was Toby sliding down the steps and promptly being trampled on by some kids at the bottom.  He then went up to the top of the soft play with mummy and was nearly knocked over by the big slide – this made him cry again.  After some consolation Toby then wanted to go down the big slide.  The problem was that Mummy went down first with Toby following head first on his back and hitting every bounce with a thump.  We eventually arrived at the bottom, Toby slightly after Mummy, and there were an awful lot of tears.  A little girl and her mummy came down just after Toby and Mummy, and she was practically in tears because Toby was in tears – he does have a habit of attracting all the girlies – wonder who he gets that from?

Today we tried to go swimming at the Dolphin Centre but unfortunately when we got there, there was a swimming gala on.  After a little bit of trauma we decided to go to the baths at Northallerton.  Toby really enjoyed the swimming and particularly going under water, and monkey monkey monkeying (you have to see it) followed by going down the big slide with Daddy.  Obviously yesterday’s trauma hadn’t stayed with him.  Toby and Daddy came down the slide with a big splash.  Daddy nearly drowned but Toby enjoyed himself.  After swimming Toby was shattered but wouldn’t go to sleep so after a very tearful afternoon, a few falls, a few screams, Toby finally went in the bath and to bed – oh peace and quiet – don’t you just love it.

Don’t show me any more chocolate !!!

Obviously this is not the cry from Daddy.  WeeMan has been spoilt rotten with lots and lots of Easter eggs – a big thank you to everyone.  We’ll make sure he brushes his teeth at least twice a day.  We are due our first visit to the dentist in April – no doubt Toby will either scream the place down or just not open his mouth.

Uncle Thom, Uncle Nic, Ellie and Jamie came round on Good Friday for a play session that involved a lot of eating of crap food.  Hence Toby was still wide awake at 9.30 pm.  He was quite happy lying in his cot talking and giggling to himself.  Strange boy.

For some reason Toby has got it into his head that Nic is an uncle and not an auntie.  I’m not sure if this is an improvement on Grandma as this is what he used to call her.  As I said earlier, strange boy.

We had a trip to ‘big ball, big slide’ on Saturday.  Unfortunately Toby wasn’t his usual happy self and cried most of the time (bloody teeth, they have a lot to answer for) so this was a rather short trip out but still he did manage to use up some of the sugar rush from the night before.

There was a winter wonderland scene when the curtains were opened this morning.  So we hastily got dressed to go outside and make a snowman – see pictures in Toby 12 (page 2).  After the snowman was made we all came inside to have porridge and then went down to the front to go sledging.  Toby absolutely loved it; the sheer terror/enjoyment on his face was a picture.  I’ve tried to get a couple of pictures but unfortunately I had to catch Toby at the bottom of he bank so they aren’t really very good but hey ho Toby enjoyed the snow.

Best wishes to everyone and hope you all have a good Easter and remember – don’t eat too much chocolate.  Everyone except Rachel of course who has to keep up her energy levels for baby number 2.

I do exist !!

Just a note to let you know that Daddy has finally shown Mummy how to upload pictures.  These are on page 2 (Toby 12) of our gallery.  Sorry it has taken soooo long !!!

A quick thank you to both grandmas for looking after me while Mummy and Daddy had a night away in Glasgow.  I had a wonderful time and can’t wait to do it again soon.

Love
